Fauna of the Bali Sea

Pacific inter-island sea between the eastern tip of Java and the islands of Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa, Sulawesi and Madura. Area 40 thousand km², average depth 411 m, maximum depth 1590 m (Bali Depression). Water temperature 27-28°C. Salinity 33.0-34.0 ‰. The bottom is lined with sediments with a lot of volcanic tuff. 

Popular fish of the Bali Sea

The Bali Sea is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. The coral reefs of the sea are teeming with life and are home to various species of fish: Amphiprion, Peacock Bass, Frogfish, Parrotfish, Roseap Sunfish, Monodactylidae, Clown Triggerfish, Mandarinfish, Ocean Sunfish and, if you are lucky, a Giant Oceanic Manta Ray.

There are also nudibranchs, starfish, hydrophiinae, sclerospongiae, reef octopus, crabs, shrimps and other invertebrates. 

Fishing in the Bali Sea

The Bali Sea attracts fishermen with its rich fish stocks and beautiful seascapes. The area is renowned for its diverse marine life, including fish species such as barracuda, tuna, marlin, gilt-head bream, mahi-mahi.

Diving in the Bali Sea

Scuba diving is a popular activity in the Bali Sea. Divers commonly encounter oriental sweetlips, latticed butterflyfish, titan triggerfish, semicircular angelfish, trumpetfish, paracanthurus, papuan toby, leaf fish, stonefish, shorthorn sculpin and green humphead parrotfish.

Dolphins in the Bali Sea

Swarms of dolphins regularly swim along the coast every morning, mostly spinner dolphins (Stenella longirostris), which are the most numerous in these waters.

Sharks of the Bali Sea

Predators are not uncommon. Whale sharks and whitetip reef sharks are common in the Bali Sea. There are virtually no species dangerous to humans in this sea. 

Plankton of the Bali Sea

At night, the waters of the Bali Sea are lit up by plankton. Thousands of tiny dots begin to glow in the dark sea. You won't find such an unusual and beautiful sight anywhere else.
