Identification

This species has the following characteristics: the scales are 12-16 cm below the lateral line from the beginning of the anal fin; the length of the upper jaw is 13.2-14.6% of the body length.

Distribution

Widespread in the western Pacific Ocean from Japan to the South China Sea.

Subtropical marine benthic species. Occurs in deep coastal waters on sandy-silt substrates.

Behavior

This species is found in deep waters. 

Food and feeding habits

Threadtail anthias feed on invertebrates, mainly shrimp.

Reproduction

This species has both male and female sex cells at the same time. However, the female cells do not mature at the same time as the male cells, but alternate, so that each fish spends part of its life as a male and part as a female.
