Distribution

Behavior

They inhabit coastal waters and rarely enter tidal rivers and estuaries. 

Food and feeding habits

They feed mainly on invertebrates. 

Fishing

In Indonesia and the Philippines, this fish is considered important in the fishing industry. It is mainly caught using bottom trawls, bamboo traps and longlines.

These fish are sun-dried and salted before being sold and consumed. 

The sharp spines on the dorsal and pectoral fins can cause painful wounds.
