These fish have a smooth oval body, a spiny dorsal fin, and a split tail.

Features of fish fins

The dorsal fin has 9-10 hard rays and 16-17 soft rays. The anal fin has 2 hard rays and 12-13 soft rays.

Fish colouring

The body of the fish is orange. A thin white stripe runs across the head in front of the gill cover. A long white band begins at the snout and extends along the base of the white dorsal fin to the base of the caudal fin. The caudal fin is white. The remaining fins are transparent. 

Distribution

Inhabitants of coral reefs of Southeast Asia, New Guinea, Melanesia, Micronesia, from the coast of northern Australia to the Ryukyu Islands. 

Habitat

A marine tropical species that prefers brackish waters. Depth range from 1 to 38 meters.

Size

Reaches a length of 10 cm. Females slightly larger than males.

Behavior

They do not migrate. They are predominantly diurnal. Do not burrow. Monogamous. Near the island of Bali, they live with the closely related species Amphiprion akallopisos. Pink skunk clownfish live in symbiosis with 4 species of Actinia: Macrodactyla doreensis, Heteractis crispa, Heteractis magnifica and Stichodactyla gigantea.

Food and feeding habits

The diet of the golden damselfish consists of zooplankton.

Reproduction

Protandrous hermaphrodite. Egg-laying, mates differently during reproduction. Eggs are on the bottom and attached to the substrate. Males guard and care for eggs. A pair spawns several times a year. Annual fecundity is estimated at 2000-4000 eggs. Size at sex change = 5.4 cm in length.

Fishing

Of no commercial interest to fisheries.

Relationship with a person

Harmless. This species is sometimes found in the aquarium trade.
