Identification
The head of these fishes is sharply rounded forward. Teeth fused to dental plates; dental plates relatively smooth and wide open; 1-3 fangs laterally behind upper dental plates; 2 rows of scales on cheek; 4 median anteroposterior scales (rarely 3).

Caudal fin of early stage slightly rounded, end stage truncate to slightly emarginate.
Fish colouring
They have a pinkish-green coloration. Males with pink border on gills and pink stripes or spots on scales.
Distribution
Widespread in the eastern Indian Ocean and western Pacific Ocean.
Habitat
Marine tropical species. Depth from 5 to 15 meters. Inhabits coastal areas and inner reefs, in shallow waters among corals and algae.

Behavior
This species occurs in small schools, often mixed with other species. Females form small groups.
