The landlocked or non-anadromous member of the charr family has been reclassified as the subspecies Arctic charr (S. alpinus oquassa), along with its close relatives Sunapee trout and Quebec red trout.
Distribution
Blueback trout were once abundant in the lakes of Rangeley, Maine, but are now extinct. However, bluebacks are abundant in several other waters in the state and are fished in open water.
