The ovipositor is an external sexual organ in the female of some fish, which is a modified urogenital papilla that elongates during spawning. It consists of a maximum of three pairs of appendages that are used to transfer the egg, prepare a place for it and position it correctly.
For example, Rhodeus sericeus has an ovipositor, a modified anal fin used to lay eggs in the mantle cavity of pond molluscs.
