• Individual

From the Latin individuum - indivisible.

An individual is an independently existing organism, synonymous with the concept of an individual.

An individual, any organism, comes from a fertilized egg (egg).

An indivisible unit of life. The most essential feature of an individual is the strict interdependence of individual parts: it is impossible to divide an individual into parts without losing its "individuality". The concept of "individual" is fully applicable only to higher non-colonial organisms. For colonial, vegetatively reproducing and symbiotic organisms, the concept of "individual" is relative. From the evolutionary point of view, an individual is a morphophysiological unit originating from a single zygote or gamete (in the case of gametophyte, parthenogenesis), from a single spore or bud (in vegetative reproduction), individually subject to the action of elementary evolutionary factors.
