Used in the fishing industry. They can be vegetable or synthetic, twisted or braided, and are characterised by their diameter and breaking strength. They range in diameter from 3 to 19.1 mm, depending on their use.
     In the last century, fishing ropes made from cotton or linen were used, but they were prone to fouling and decay and did not last long. With the advent of modern high-tenacity synthetic materials, the situation has changed dramatically. Ropes now have high strength properties and have a longer service life.
