• Botalo

From the word botat, to knock loudly.

Catching fish with a special wide net called a botalo. A botalo is a long, thin stick with a wide wooden bell at the end. Once the nets are close to the reeds, the fishermen go out in a boat and start hitting the water with a loud rolling sound. The frightened fish rush forward and get caught in the bait placed in their path.
