The science that studies the life of animal communities, their relationship to the environment and to each other, and the effects of abiotic natural factors on communities.

A biological discipline that studies plant and animal communities in their totality (living nature), i.e. biocenoses, their structure, evolution, distribution in space and time, origins. The study of communities of organisms in their interaction with non-living nature is the subject of biogeocenology.
