• Aquaculture

Aquaculture – the artificial or controlled culture of aquatic organisms,  including stripping and fertilisation of eggs and raising of young to a certain size for release or marketing. Also spelled aquiculture, but this also means hydroponics.

The objects of aquaculture are algae, mollusks, arthropods, fish and turtles.

Cultivation of marine organisms is called mariculture (marine farming), freshwater organisms - limnoculture.

Mariculture is the cultivation of marine organisms for food and other animal products, in enclosed sections of the open ocean (offshore mariculture), fish farms built on littoral waters (inshore mariculture), or in artificial tanks, ponds or raceways which are filled with seawater (onshore mariculture).
